"It's good to see the same nurses on a regular basis,
it feels safer and more comfortable. The nurses
actually listen to us."

As a community-based support service for people who are homeless, under-housed and socially marginalized, ID Safe offers assistance in the retention and retrieval of identification, to ensure that clients have access to necessary services.

ID replacement has become a primary factor that impacts the well-being of homeless people. Without identification people cannot access basic services including health care, welfare, shelters and food banks, nor can they apply for jobs, secure housing, open a bank account or apply for any other identification.

Street Health’s ID Safe program offers people a safe and secure place to store their identification and related documents to ensure people have continued access to needed services.

  • ID is stored securely, both physically and confidentially
  • ID information is provided to other individuals or organizations only with the client’s consent
  • Storage protocols meet the requirements of Ontario’s privacy legislation
  • Protocols are set up with service providers so clients do not have to show original identification documents

We are located at Street Health (338 Dundas Street East). We are open Monday-Friday 9:00-4:30 (closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00). If you have any questions, comments or ideas please contact us at ID Safe. Phone: (416)925-0043.

We are grateful for funding from the Federal Supporting Communities Partnership Initiative for making this long-awaited project a reality.
