30 Donor Stories – A Gift That Gives Again
November 16, 2016
What birthday gift continues to give even after the song is sung, the candles are blown out and the cake is enjoyed? The gift of knowing that your birthday was marked by a donation to Street Health – that you’ve become part of a care group who are helping provide services to individuals who are homeless and under-housed throughout the year. Street Health has received donations to mark that special day for those as young as 9 years of age and those who are into their mature and wise years. All of these donations have made a difference for our Nursing and Community Outreach programs.
Recently, long-time donor Lynne sent us a donation to recognize her cousin’s 80th birthday. “Some people say that they prefer ‘No Presents’ when celebrating their big life events. For Bill, I wanted to help him mark this happy occasion by making a donation I knew he would appreciate.”
Lynne also understands that Street Health is seeing more and more clients who are in their senior years. “I know the old age pension doesn’t provide enough for people to live on. I’ve been fortunate to have a pension and I want to make sure that those who need support due to their limited financial resources, can get help when they need it.
“Street Health’s work now spans 30 years, so there are also new generations of supporters beginning. My daughter has been a monthly donor to Street Health for a few years. Our family is pleased to look for opportunities to broaden support for this work, in the hope that one day it will no longer be needed.”
The next time you are stumped for a gift – consider how your donation in honour of a special friend or family member can extend a joyous celebration and contribute to many positive community returns!
